Advertisers started receiving a notice around October 14 saying Meta will add product browsing to existing Facebook and Instagram ads, with October 28 reported as the switch-on date. When it is active, a tap on the ad may open an in-app experience with product info and suggestions instead of sending the person straight to your site. The change is opt-out, and it lands a month before Black Friday.
What changes on October 28
Product browsing is one of Meta's personalized destination options: when someone taps the image or video in an ad, Meta can show a browsing experience inside the app rather than the landing page you set. Until now it was something you chose; the notice flips the default to on for ads that are already live.
The wording says people "may" see the in-app experience, so not every tap is rerouted. The notice reproduced by advertisers does not say whether new ads default to on, which formats or objectives are covered, or whether a catalog is required. As of October 15, trade press could not find a matching Meta Help Center article, changelog entry or newsroom post.
Meta's case for it
Meta cites an experiment run from August 6 to 21, 2026 across roughly 117,700 advertisers, mostly e-commerce, CPG and retail, reporting on average 3% more conversions with product browsing than without it. The metric definition and attribution behind that figure were not published, so treat it as Meta's claim rather than a benchmark for your account.
Who should care most
Anyone whose numbers depend on traffic landing on their own page: affiliates sending users to a presell or lander, brands running post-click tracking, quiz funnels or upsells, and teams comparing creatives by landing-page metrics. An in-app session can shift where the conversion is counted and what your analytics see, right as BFCM budgets scale up.
- Affiliate and lead-gen funnels that need the click to reach a specific URL
- Stores whose CRO tests run on the landing page
- Agencies reporting on site sessions or landing-page view rate
How to control it
The notice included an Opt out button; one advertiser reported that clicking it showed which ad account was affected before confirming. Per-ad control sits in Ads Manager under Advantage+ creative enhancements and personalized destinations, where product browsing can be switched off. Duplicated ads can carry settings with them, so recheck after October 28 and after any bulk copy. If you manage many accounts, for example a set of agency accounts from Power Ads, check each one rather than assuming a single opt-out covers them all.
What it means for you
- Decide before October 28 whether you want in-app product browsing on live ads.
- Turn it off per ad under Advantage+ creative enhancements if your funnel needs the landing page.
- Recheck duplicated ads and every ad account, not just one.
- Compare landing-page view rate before and after Oct 28 to spot rerouted clicks.
