Meta has added creative-level reporting to the Breakdown menu in Ads Manager. Advertisers can now see how each image, video and text variation inside an ad performed, rather than only the ad as a whole.
What is new
Social Media Today and Social Samosa report that the Breakdown menu now covers individual creative elements. Meta's help centre has a matching article on viewing creative performance for individual media assets in an ad.
- Media: Breakdown, then Creative, then Media shows each image or video delivered as single media
- Text: Breakdown, then Dynamic creative element, then the text option shows each text variation
- Ad delivery: a separate breakdown reports on media assets that were removed from an ad
Limitations
Formats added through display options such as Show as collection or Show as carousel are not included in the media list. Social Media Today also notes that some custom conversion elements, including Donate and Subscribe, are not shown. No regional rollout details were given, so check your own accounts.
Why it matters now
This follows Meta's recent option to set an age range and gender for each creative within an ad set, and the wider shift to fewer targeting controls. With the delivery system leaning on creative to find buyers, knowing which asset actually carried the results is more useful than ever, especially in multi-asset ads where Meta mixes elements automatically.
How to use it
Pull the media and text breakdowns on your main multi-asset ads before peak season. Cut assets that get spend but convert poorly, and turn proven winners into new standalone ads or new variations. Read results in context: an asset that got little delivery may simply not have been tested enough.
For agencies, the breakdown also makes client reporting more concrete. Instead of saying an ad worked, you can show which video or which line of copy drove purchases, and brief the next round of creative around it. Export the breakdown alongside standard ad-level results so cost per result per asset sits next to the spend each asset actually received.
What it means for you
- Use Breakdown > Creative > Media to rank images and videos
- Use Dynamic creative element to compare text variations
- Collection and carousel display formats are not in the media report
- Prune weak assets and rebuild ads around proven winners
