Meta's restriction period for new US ads about social issues, elections or politics ran from 12:01am PT on October 27 to 11:59pm PT on November 3, election day. With the window now closed, advertisers who held back new political or issue creative can start submitting again. The normal authorization and disclaimer rules still apply, and Meta's notice says nothing either way about any post-election measures.
What the restriction covered
Meta's developer notice, published October 6, blocked any new ad in the social issues, elections or politics category from starting delivery in the US during the window. Ads with a valid disclaimer that had served at least one impression before 12:01am PT on October 27 were allowed to keep running.
Those running ads could only be edited in limited ways during the eight days.
- Allowed: bid, budget, scheduled end date, pause and resume
- Blocked: creative, placement, targeting and optimization changes
- Blocked: any new ad that had not delivered an impression before the window opened
What changes now that it has closed
Meta's notice gives the end of the window as 11:59pm PT on Tuesday, November 3, which is 2:59am ET on November 4. From that point the special restriction no longer applies, so new ads in the category can go through the usual review again and live ads can be edited normally.
PPC Land points out that the 2026 notice only describes the pre-election window. Meta paused new political ads after polls closed in 2020, but nothing in this year's notice announces a similar post-vote measure. If you run issue or political ads in the US, check Ads Manager for any new notices before assuming everything is back to normal.
Who it affects
Campaigns, advocacy groups and agencies are the obvious ones, but the category is broad. Ads that touch on social issues such as the economy, immigration, health or civil rights can be classified as issue ads even when they come from a brand or a nonprofit. Advertisers who ran into rejections or held back work during the past week are the ones who should be checking their queues today.
Accounts that had not completed ad authorization should note that the window ending does not remove that requirement. Ads in the category still need an authorized person and an approved "Paid for by" disclaimer.
What to do now
Review anything you paused or held back on October 27, update dated election messaging so it does not run with stale calls to vote, and re-check that disclaimers are still approved. API users should keep setting ISSUES_ELECTIONS_POLITICS in the special_ad_categories field for these ads. If you need separate accounts for issue work and commercial campaigns, Power Ads can supply agency accounts on corporate cards with a 24/7 operator, though authorization and disclaimers are still your responsibility.
What it means for you
- New US social issue, election and political ads can be submitted again after 11:59pm PT on November 3.
- Meta's 2026 notice says nothing about a post-vote pause, so watch Ads Manager for new notices.
- Authorization and "Paid for by" disclaimers are still required for every ad in the category.
- Refresh or end election-day creative so outdated messaging does not keep spending.
