Meta announced on October 13 that Facebook is rolling out Your algorithm, a set of AI tools that let people describe in their own words what they want to see in Feed and Reels. Meta says recommendations update within the same session. The announcement does not mention ads, but it changes the environment your organic posts and ads run in.
What Meta launched
Your algorithm is a space reached from the three-dot menu on posts, where users can add and manage topics they want more of. When someone taps Interested or Not interested, Facebook may now ask a follow-up question and let them answer in free text.
Meta says large language models interpret that input and combine it with existing ranking signals such as likes, comments and watch history. The three-dot menu itself has been redesigned to make these controls easier to find. Meta did not give a regional timeline beyond saying it is rolling out.
Why advertisers should care
Meta has not said that Your algorithm changes ad targeting or delivery, and you should not assume it does. The direct impact is on organic distribution: Pages and creators whose content matches topics users actively ask for may see more Feed and Reels reach, and content users explicitly reject may see less.
Indirectly, it is another sign of where Meta's ranking is heading: interest stated in natural language, read by LLMs, on top of behaviour. Paid social teams that rely on organic posts for social proof, or that boost organic winners into ads, will feel it first.
What to watch
None of these will tell you on its own that Your algorithm is the cause, so compare against a few weeks of history before changing anything.
- Organic reach and Reels views on your Pages over the next few weeks, compared with your usual baseline.
- Quality ranking in Ads Manager's relevance diagnostics for ads that reuse organic posts.
- Whether Meta extends similar natural-language controls to ad preferences; nothing has been announced.
Practical steps
Make the topic of every post and creative obvious within the first second, in words and visuals, so both users and Meta's models can classify it. Keep creative tightly matched to the audience you expect to reach, since a user who has told Facebook they are tired of a topic is a poor prospect regardless of the bid. And keep testing hooks: if people can now say exactly what bores them, generic creative will age faster.
What it means for you
- Your algorithm lets Facebook users steer Feed and Reels topics in plain language; it is rolling out now.
- Meta has not announced any change to ad targeting or delivery from this feature.
- Expect organic reach to shift toward clearly topical content.
- Make the subject of each creative obvious fast and refresh tired angles sooner.
