Failed Payment

An unsuccessful attempt to charge an ad account's payment method, which can pause ad delivery if unresolved.

A failed payment happens when a charge attempt is declined — due to insufficient funds, an expired card, a bank's fraud flag, or a card issuer blocking the merchant category code entirely, which is common with financial institutions that flag advertising or gambling-adjacent charges. Ad delivery pauses until the outstanding balance is settled with a valid payment method.

Agencies running verticals like iGaming and crypto keep backup payment methods on file specifically because these categories see a higher rate of card declines from cautious banks, and a paused ad account mid-campaign directly costs the client lost impressions and results.
